Cold weather can negatively affect dogs as well as all living things. Especially in the middle of the winter season, the health of dogs is adversely affected and you need to pay extra attention to the care of your dog in extremely cold weather.

Here are some advices from Cocopeds for you to spend the winter months more comfortably...

  • Hot and cold transitions are one of the most important factors that cause the disease in this period. Create a warm living space for your pet without wasting time. You can choose polar fabric dog bed models for your dog to sleep in a warmer bed, if you think it is not enough, you can help your dog to protect him from the cold by using a specially produced dog blanket for dogs.

  • The time you spend outside can be difficult for both you and your pet. Lying or sleeping on the cold floor can cause diseases such as pneumonia and hypothermia. Avoid going for a walk in the early morning and late evening. Take care to spend time at home when the weather conditions are more difficult.

  • Dogs will start looking for warm areas when they are cold due to their natural nature. You should think about the areas in your home that will pose a danger to this situation and take precautions. Avoid heaters, install radiator covers, and use shields for fireplaces to avoid burn hazards.

  • Do not disrupt your diet. Although dogs need an extra layer in the winter, make sure it comes from a coat and not a layer of fat. Avoid overfeeding. Even cold weather can lead to lazy behavior and fewer calorie needs. Pay attention to your dog's activity level and adjust their calories accordingly.

  • Keep in mind that in cold weather, you can also become dehydrated. Dogs can become dehydrated in winter as quickly as in summer. Although most dogs eat snow, it is not an adequate substitute for fresh water. If your dog spends time outside in your garden, make sure it has access to a water bowl, check it often, and keep it clean.

  • Spend extra time on paw care. Just like we tend to develop cracked feet in the winter, dogs can have cracked pads. If your dog has hairy feet, trim the hairs growing between their pads to prevent ice from forming between the pads. Winter salt on city sidewalks can also burn your dog's pads and is poisonous, so rinse or wipe your dog's paws off after a walk around the neighborhood—you don't want him licking it up. If your dog shows signs of discomfort when walking outside on frozen or salty surfaces, consider using dog booties to protect their paws.

No matter how hard the winter months seem for animals, they can actually become fun with the little precautions taken. You always take care not to skip the care process of your pet and to provide him with a more comfortable space.

Wishing you a pleasant time.
